Adaigbo Progressive Association of Washington State (APAWAS) is a social, charitable and non-profit entity. The organization is Actively Dedicated to Advocate and Inspire Generations with Benevolence and Oneness. Membership is voluntary and open to all Igbo women residing in Washington State. It consists of women who by birth came from the following Igbo Speaking States in Nigeria (Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Delta, Abia, Ebonyi, Rivers). Adaigbo does various activities here in the U.S. and abroad in Nigeria.

APAWAS regularly organizes summer camps as we are actively dedicated to advocate and inspire generations with Benevolence and Oneness. Read more

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS:

  1. Child dedication service; a gift and mutual support from the association such as meal planning.
  2. Wedding; a gift to the member or the member’s child plus mutual support.
  3. Bereavement; a gift towards the funeral of a member or a member's spouse or child or a member's parent. We also provide moral support to the immediate family

A formal invitation is required to the association if a member wishes for Adaigbo, to attend any of her occasions. This must be done two months prior to the date of event except for proven, emergent scenarios. The member formally notifies the association through the President or her designee. Read more

Meetings

We hold monthly meetings on the second Sunday of the month; hosted by one of the members. The meeting lasts 2-3 hours and starts at 6:00pm. Members are notified about the meeting via email, text message, whatsapp or any media as necessary. Emergency or special meetings are convened to deal with special/ emergency matters as the need arises.
 
The president of Adaigbo moderates all meetings. The Vice president moderates the meeting in the absence of the president or any other person designated from amongst the executives in their absence. A quorum is formed with fifty percent (50%) of the total members in attendance. In addition, one or more of the following must be present for the meeting to commence: the president, Vice president, the secretary, the assistant secretary or a designee.
 

Uniforms

Any member that invites the association for an event will decide what she wants the association to wear to her event; members discuss and agree it. Official uniform with the association’s logo is available for members and members are responsible for acquiring the uniform.
 

Dance Performers

Dance performance invitations is done at a fee. All proceeds from dance performances by Adaigbo children’s group are deposited into a sub-account (children’s account) for their support and maintenance.

Children's Culture

For our children, we foster cultural understanding for our cultures through promotion of cultural exchange. Read more

Orphanage

We support orphanages through financial donations, volunteering, donating goods, and raising awareness. Read more

COVID Support

During COVID time, we supported many families in Nigeria who were greatly affected by the pandemic. Read more
